The Essay Review of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3

It's been like 7 years since the Red Alert 2, and 12 years since the original Red Alert was born, people have been waiting for Red Alert 3 for a long time. Now, its officially here and thank god, it looks good, plays good, sounds good and more and more and more...

First, we start up with a Hollywood style movie as an introduction, this has been a tradition to the series. You can view it below, (it looks cool, even though not as good compared to normal Hollywood movie, but it's a game!!!). The story come out, the end of the war between Allied Nations and Soviet Union. Soviets need to change things around, travel back in time and eliminate Albert Einstein, which they think he is too good for the Allied. When the went back to the present and found out Allied was indeed weaken by that, but the Empire of the Rising Sun was born (Japan to be exact).

The movie involved actors like J.K. Simmons (Spider-man), Gemma Atkinson (Hollyoaks [popular in the UK but not here]), Jenny McCarthy (Scary Movie), Kelly Hu (X-Men 2) and the most popular of all, George Takei (Heroes, Star Trek). And forgot to mention David Hasselhoff (Baywatch, Knight Rider) also make an appearance.

Bow to the might of Empire!!!

Okay, lets get back to the game shall we? First of all, the units are all very balanced between 3 of them (Allies, Soviets and Empire), this is what a game like this should be, balance between them. And also, I found out addition of Japan (Empire) is pretty useless. It doesn't mean Empire is bad, it just say that this game is encounter between Allied and Soviets, it's presence here is very small.Break my Tesla defense now!!! No One?!?!

Allied is kinda like old fashion combat, with faster units to attack but less powerful weapon, Allied also good on Air unis. Soviets use more powerful arsenal but less agile to Allied, and better on the ground. Empire however, is the strangest of all, transforming robots?!?!?!Lonely con-yard

New to the series or the whole genre was, cooperative gameplay. The basic concept is get hooked online and find people to play the same mission with you together, while this gameplay is almost impossible when you have that Streamyx around. Don't worry, they will put you with AI to play with. While the enemy always attack you not your co-commander, tell them to defend your base while you build your base... Advice, try hard to connect to internet!!!

Kirov Airship Reporting

1 major issue with the game in the Internet connectivity, it basically won't connect every first try (not only Malaysia). You need to patiently work out with the connection and play online. And before patching, 2 noticeable bugs is the game won't detect mouse clicks and it sometimes can order all your troops back to your base without noticing, which are now resolved
Great game!

Red Alert 3 is indeed a great game, even though with some bugs around. Many people say this is not a true Red Alert game, this is still much of a debate. But entirely, Red Alert 3 achieved what a game on this genre should be and with some bugs (now mostly resolved), plus addition of movie tie-in. This is a game you should try out.

4.8Gbps USB 3.0 spec finalized (Waliao eh!!!)

Interesting News:

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group announced today that the USB 3.0 specification has been finalized, some 14 months (almost to the day) after Intel first demonstrated a prototype USB 3.0 device. The new standard isn't expected to start headlining on motherboards until the latter half of 2009 (at the earliest), with compliant devices hopefully appearing sometime in 2010. Expect USB 3.0-compliant motherboards to command a fair premium for the privilege; motherboard manufacturers will jump at the chance to differentiate themselves via support for the new, Super Speed interface.

Those of you hoping that the USB group would seize this chance to adopt a naming scheme that wasn't invented by six year-olds can commence weeping. Super-Speed USB 3.0, with its transfer rate of 4.8Gbps will join High-Speed (USB 2.0, 480Mbps), Full Speed, (USB 1.0, 12Mbitps) and Low Speed (USB 1.0, 1.5Mbps) on the list of easily understood USB standards. Anyone care to take an early stab at USB 4.0's eventual moniker? "Ultra Speed," "Xtreme Speed," or "OMGWTF Speed," all seem to be strong possibilities.

The road from prototype to finalized specification was marred by a few bumps, including a challenge from AMD and NVIDIA that Intel was unfairly sitting on the new standard's draft certification. USB 3.0 isn't just a faster implementation of USB 2.0—the new standard will support a more flexible power scheme, including support for reduced power operation and an idle power mode, but several core concerns appear to have gone unaddressed. USB 3.0 sockets are apparently limited to providing just 500mA of power (unchanged from USB 2.0), and the bus will remain relatively CPU-intensive.

Unfortunately, Intel doesn't seem to have much of a reason to push the overall standard. There is a next-generation version of FireWire; the final specification for the S3200 and S1600 standards was published in late July. Devices, however, aren't expected until the end of next year/beginning of 2010, and let's face it—FireWire is on its very last legs as a mainstream interconnect. Apple's decision to drop FireWire from the Macbook doesn't quite qualify as a stroke of doom, but the trend is clear. As the years go by, FireWire support (or, at least, support for the latest standard) is being driven into a smaller and smaller group of products and systems.

Ironically, most mid-range/high-end discrete motherboards now ship with FireWire 400/1394a support, but FireWire 1394b is virtually nowhere to be found. I won't go quite so far as to say it's literally nonexistent—Apple still supports it on the MacPro among others—but a search of even the highest-end boards on NewEgg doesn't reveal a single 1394b-equipped board. Given just how expensive premium boards can run these days, it seems fair to say that manufacturers aren't including it because they don't see it as an option consumers want, as opposed to it being an issue of cost.

If the only way to gain access to S1600 or S3200 is to buy a separate PCI/PCIe add-in board, the nascent S3200 standard's death knell has effectively sounded before the products even hit market. This may not immediately impact USB 3.0—devices and motherboards that support a new connection standard are always expensive at launch—but it may affect how quickly the price of USB 3.0-equipped devices fall. As for what those devices will be, expect an early surge of flash drives, external hard drive enclosures, digital music players, and digital video cameras. External solid-state drives, in particular, will benefit from USB 3.0's higher bandwidth; I'd expect a strong push from the likes of Western Digital when it comes time to deploy the standard.

Watched Bond, James Bond

I watched it today at Sunway Carnival Mall...

At first this movie was highly anticipated as usual because it is a Bond film. But wait, there's more, because the previous movie, Casino Royale, was very well received by both media and viewers.

And the verdict is: This movie is not as good as Casino Royale. But still, this Bond film is better than Pierce Brosnan version of 007. The performance of Daniel Craig is still solid

Everybody knows that every James Bond's film has a Bond Girl right? Every Bond movie, the Bond girl will get quite a lot of attention, but this time around the bond girl seems boring and Olga Kurylenko is not special or good enough.

Beyonce did it again!!!

I can say this song is one of Beyonce's finest song! I like Listen and Irreplaceable... And her latest, called If I Were A Boy, absolutely nice!!!

Listen to the song down here:

LYRICS
If I were a boy, even just for a day
I'd roll out of bed in the morning and throw on what I wanted and go
Drink beer with the guys, and chase after girls
I'd kick it with who I wanted and I'd never get confronted for it
Cause they stick up for me

If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I'd be a better man
I'd listen to her
Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
Cause he's taken you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

If I were a boy, I would turn off my phone
Tell everyone it's broken so they think that I was sleeping alone
I'd put myself first and make the rules as I go
Cause I know that she'd be faithful, waiting for me to come home
To come home

If I were a boy
I think I could understand, oh-oh-oohh-oh
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I'd be a better man
I'd listen to her
Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
Cause he's taken you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

It's a little too late for you to come back
Say it's just a mistake, think I'd forgive you like that
If you thought I would wait for you
You got it wrong

But you're just a boy
And you don't understand (yea, you don't understand, oh!)
How it feels to love a girl someday
You wish you were a better man
You don't listen to her
You don't care how it hurts
Until you lose the one you wanted
Because you've taken her for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

But you're just a boy
